Anyone been dreaming of an epic road trip across the USA? Would you believe me if I told you that you could potentially drive across America, in a state-of-the-art RV, FOR FREE? It kind of sounds a little too good to be true. Up until a few days ago, I wouldn’t have believed it either.
Then I discovered a magical little service called Transfer Car and everything changed… So buckle up, get your road-trip playlist ready, because Transfer Car is ready to lend you vehicles to drive across America virtually for free (or for a very very small fee)!
How, you may ask?
Basically, rental car companies need to transfer vehicles from one location to another, so instead of paying a company to do so, they lend them out to travelers free of charge for a one-way trip. All you have to do is transport the vehicle from the origin to the specified destination within a time frame. Too easy! Many of the vehicles also include insurance, fuel and mileage, and give you the option to extend the rental period beyond the given time frame (for a lot less than what you would pay for a hire car).
The other great thing about the service is you only have to be 18 and hold a valid drivers license, unlike a lot of rental companies that won’t hire out their cars to anyone under 24 (or will charge a massive excessive for doing so). Oh, and it gets better. For anyone out there from Australia or New Zealand, Transfer Car also runs down under. This means even if you can’t fork out for a trip through American, you now have a great excuse to explore your own backyard!
What I love the most about this service is the spontaneity it provokes. Sure, you can’t pick out the exact route, dates or type of vehicle that you get, but Transfer Car provides the perfect opportunity to go on a cross-country journey without any rigid plans! This definitely calls for an adventure to tick off the bucket list!
If you are itching to pack up and go on a spontaneous road trip, it may be worth considering selling your car before you go. A company like Ecology will pay you cash for your old cars, which would mean extra funds for your adventure!
Have you used transfer car before? I would love to hear what your experience was like in the comments below!
