8 Apps for Travelling to Make Your Life Easier

These are some of my favorite apps for travelling after using them on many, many trips.

8 Apps for Travelling to Make Your Life Easier

1.    Rome2Rio- Getting from A to B

By far my favourite and most used app, Rome2Rio is truly ingenious. The concept is simple- you type in where you are and where you want to go, and R2R will tell you how to get there. Unlike transport apps, R2R presents you with all your options, including planes, trains, buses, ferries and driving by car. It will specify how long each mode of transport will take and approximately how much it will cost, and even provides links to the corresponding transport websites. Figuring out the quickest or cheapest route to somewhere just got a whole lot easier!

2.    Synchronize- Figuring out Timezone

For avid travellers, working out time differences can be a massive pain in the butt. Basically, Synchronize saves your jet-lagged brain from having to compute basic timezone Maths. Load up the app home screen with different timezones, then use the slider to adjust the local time and see the corresponding time everywhere else in the world. No more excuses for missing those long-distance skype calls!

3.    Webjet- Making Travel Bookings

Booking flights and accommodation is neither a quick nor a straightforward task. Thankfully, apps like Webjet make the painful process a little less painful. Instead of spending hours trawling the internet for the best deals for your next trip, you can look through flights, accommodation and car hire all in the one place The app itself is fairly easy to navigate, and you can save all your details to the app which saves time when making bookings. Whilst Webjet will get you the best prices on airfares, they do charge a service fee when making a booking, so this is something to be aware of.

4.    Couch Surfing- Finding a Place to Sleep

This app has taken travelling on a budget to a new level. If you aren’t familiar with couch surfing, basically people in countries all over the world kindly host travellers at their homes, providing a genuine, local experience that money literally can’t buy. The app allows you to search and contact hosts around the world and read reviews other guests have left for hosts to ensure legitimacy.

5.    Google Translate- Breaking Language Barriers

The first time I used Google Translate, my mind was blown. This is not just your average language translator. Try out the Word Lens tool, where you can literally aim your camera at a foreign word and the text will change in real time to your own language! Technology. Is. Crazy.

6.    XE Currency- Keeping up with Exchange Rates

Keeping up with exchange rates may not be the most exciting task in the world, but the XE Currency app does makes it a little easier. Load as many currencies to your homepage as you please, and each time you enter the app (with Internet) it will automatically refresh to the current rates.

7. Yelp- Deciding Where to Eat

When you are in a new city, choosing where to eat can be a little overwhelming. To avoid ending up at McDonalds or with a bad case of food poisoning, Yelp is there to help. Read customer reviews and ratings of restaurants, cafes and bars in the area you are in so you can make the right choice when eating out!

8. Uber- Getting Home

If you haven’t yet got on the Uber bandwagon, you must be hiding under a rock! Paying a full cab fare is so last year. Uber is a service offering a private driver service at a much lesser cost than a regular taxi. The app allows you order, track and pay for a car. The service is now offered in most major cities, making this an essential app for travel and everyday life!
